Haters gonna hate, especially on the Internet. Almost 50 percent of young people have been bullied online, yet it has been reported that 90 percent of teens who see online bullying do nothing about it.
But DoSomething is helping them do something about it. The group teamed up with Coca-Cola to create the "Happiness Hackathon," offering 15 teens out of the hundreds who entered the chance to step up and take action as part of a special event in NYC. The goal of the Hackathon was to create a culture where it's just as easy to tell someone something positive online as it is to be negative.
The selected 15 teens worked in groups during the Hackathon to develop prototypes for online solutions to cyber-bullying, like apps, and presented their concepts to a panel of judges. They also connected with a number of thought leaders in the tech world during the day, including Trisha Prabhu, a 15-year-old innovator, founder of her own anti-bullying app and total #BUILTBYGIRLS girl.
Check out how these teens would use technology to make the Internet (and world) a happier place in the video above.
