One Direction at the Rose Bowl: Our View From the Fifth Row

I got complimentary tickets to see One Direction on the first night of the Where We Are Tour at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. I couldn't pick them up until I got to the venue. That's when my friend and I realized: Our seats were on the main floor. They were in fifth row of section A4, but we didn't really know the seating chart, so figured that could be anywhere. As we made our way to our seats, security guards kept letting us walk closer and closer to the stage. We hit the final check point and they didn't stop us. We weren't in the fifth row of some random section at the back of the floor. We were sitting in THE fifth row. We were five rows from the stage. OMG.

5 Seconds of Summer were first up. They lit up the stage with their electric energy and the crowd went crazy for them. After recently blowing up and performing on TV shows like the MTV Video Music Awards, teen girls were just as excited to see the opening act as the main attraction.

However, as soon as 5SOS stepped onstage, that's when the tears started flowing. Two girls sitting directly behind were bawling the entire show. I'm serious: they were absolutely hysterically crying. These girls had braces and looked about 13, and they never stopped crying and screaming at the top of their lungs until after the final fireworks. (The show featured a lot of crazy pyrotechnics, including Fourth of July-worthy fireworks!)

Now, I've been to a lot of boy band concerts and I did my fair share of fangirling over the Jonas Brothers in high school, but never have I ever reacted to a show like these girls. They were literally losing their minds. Their screams were kind of deafening, but honestly, they were awesome. They were so over the top that it was utterly fabulous. They were so excited and in disbelief that they couldn't even control their emotions. I bet they had the best night of their 13-year-old lives so far.

However, there was some drama. One of the crying girls' friends behind us passed out during the show. Seriously, she was up and then all of a sudden she was down. Event security had to clear out the row to come to her rescue. I don't know if she got overheated or Harry just smiled at her, but luckily, she was okay.

The coolest part about sitting in the fifth row is that the band can actually see you. I know it sounds silly to say, "He was totally looking me," but if you're in the first seven to eight rows, he honestly probably was. The guys look at you, point at you, wave at you and even make fun of the crazy dance moves you're doing. Harry Styles made eye contact with me and that's a moment I get to remember forever.

Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Harry were the best at interacting with the front row fans. Liam pointed at girls and winked at them. Harry was a big fan of giving ladies the thumbs up and even playfully mocked some girls who were dancing silly. Zayn kept his cool, but was great at making fans feel special by smiling and waving at them. Sitting so close, you really feel like you connect with the band and get to see their personalities. Plus, not only do they interact with you, but you get to see the funny interactions they have with each other.

The show was spectacular. The guys had amazing energy on stage, but it seemed like Harry might not have been feeling well. He kept running backstage to take sips of what looked like tea and pop throat lozenges. (He also ate a banana mid-show.) However, he didn't let that affect his performance! Harry's onstage charisma is effortless. It's like he was born to be on stage and entertain a crowd.

One Direction put on an amazing show where their talent and personalities both shine through. They are true professionals who know to entertain their fans, parents (the moms in 1D gear cracked me up!) and industry professionals alike. I haven't had that much fun at a concert in a really long time. Even if you can't sit in the first five rows, I highly recommend it!

Cambio Q and A: 'The Maze Runner' Star Blake Cooper

Can't wait to see The Maze Runner?

We got a chance to chat with one of the movie's young, up-and-coming stars, Blake Cooper, about his role in the eagerly anticipated film.

The Maze Runner is an action-adventure about a young man named Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) who wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys. Yikes! He has no memory of his former life or the outside world, but must uncover his true purpose and a way to escape by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze.

Blake told us all about his role in the film, what it was like working with Dylan and why this Young Adult book turned blockbuster is different than The Hunger Games or Divergent. Watch The Maze Runner trailer above and check out our interview with him below.

Cambio: What are three words you'd use to describe your character Chuck in "The Maze Runner?"
Blake Cooper: Courageous, Kind, Funny

C: What would you say is Chuck's role in the group of guys in the movie?
BC: Chuck definitely is described as the little brother of the glade, and also a follower and supporter of Thomas no matter what. I think he also could have the chops to be a leader. Watch the movie and see for yourself whether you agree with me. To me, Chuck represents the innocence and heart of the group.

C: What was it like working with so many other young guys on set?
BC: It was an absolute blast! I connected so easily with these guys because they really don't act their age! But that's a good thing. I feel like these guys will be my friends forever. (Kaya [the one girl in the film] included.)

C: What's your favorite memory of working with Dylan O'Brien?
BC: Every memory is my favorite memory! Dylan is such an awesome and fun guy that I couldn't possibly choose which one. I mainly appreciate how nice he was to me the entire time.

C: How is The Maze Runner different than other Young Adult novels that have recently been turned into films, like The Hunger Games and Divergent?
BC: Well one thing The Maze Runner doesn't have is a romance. They don't have the time to do anything romancey! They're fighting for their lives!

C: Describe the world in which this movie exists.
BC: The Maze Runner is set in a beautiful place called The Glade, which is where the gladers live and grow their food. The Glade is surrounded by a giant (at least 150 foot) wall that protects the gladers from Grievers. (The grievers are horrible monsters that hunt the boys and live inside of The Maze.) The Maze is...well, a huge maze with moving walls that change formation every day. Wes Ball, our director, has done an amazing job of creating our "world" and I can't wait for everyone to experience the mystery and suspense of it!

C: What's the best advice you've ever received?
BC: I recently got some good advice from Brian Dennehy while we were working on the Amazon Studios pilot, Cocked. He said something like, "Quit acting and become a dentist!" Of course he was joking, but I thought it was pretty funny! (At least I think he was joking.) Wes Ball had great advice when he kept telling us, "Pain is temporary, but film lasts forever!" And, in truth the best advice I've gotten is simple and from my mom and that is to, "Remember to have fun because if you aren't having fun, WHY would you be doing this?"

C: What's your hidden talent?
BC: Not sure how big a secret this is, but I sing and play guitar. I also happen to be great with animals.

C: Who is your celeb crush and why?
BC: I don't actually have a celebrity crush, but I'll tell you some celebrities that I'd love to work with. Leonardo Di'Caprio, Tom Hanks, Troy Baker, Andy Serkis, Russell Crowe, Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Gary Oldman and the list goes on.

C: Who inspires you and why?
BC: If I had to pick just one person, it would be my mom. She taught me almost everything I know about life. She is constantly helping me and inspiring me to be successful, and to be a kind and helpful person. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't be where I am today. (In fact, I wouldn't even be alive!)

Check out The Maze Runner in theaters on Sept. 19.

Nash Grier Talks Meeting Fans, Giving Back and "Changing the World"

2014 Billboard Music Awards - Arrivals
Vine star Nash Grier has partnered with friends and fellow online sensations Cameron Dallas, Carter Reynolds and Hayes Grier for a special sweepstakes called "Your Personal Fam Tour" (enter the sweepstakes here) to raise money for their favorite charities. Here's how it works: No purchase is necessary to enter, but fans can enter by buying a raffle ticket for just one dollar, and the more raffle tickets you buy (aka the more you donate), the greater your chances of winning.

All of the money raised be the contest is being donated to the EVE Foundation, Hope for Holt and Love is Louder charities. Once the sweepstakes ends, the winner and nine of their closest friends will get to spend a day with Nash, Cameron and the rest of the crew.

Sounds like a dream come true for one of their biggest fans. We got a chance to chat with Nash about the contest and his newfound fame when he was visiting home in North Carolina (he happened to be at his little bro's football game when he called us).

The charity Nash chose to donate the sweepstakes proceeds to is called Hope for Holt, a foundation started for his cousin and built to raise awareness about a rare disease called Cystinosis, as well as support the Cystinosis Research Foundation in hopes of finding a cure.

"Holt is my cousin, and he was diagnosed with Cystinosis when he was a kid. Cystinosis is a disease that deteriorates all your major organs over time. He's lived well past what he's expected to. He is just the greatest, most joyful bowl of sunshine in the world. You'll never catch the kid without a smile. He's a role model to me just because of his outlook on life," said Nash. "He's just such a great kid, it's really unfortunate what happened to him, so I just want to bring awareness for his case."

Nash is excited to use his massive social media following to give back, but just as pumped to spend a day with the sweepstakes winner. He told us what he and they guys have in store for the lucky fan.

"Me and Cam (Cameron Dallas) argue about this, but I kind of wanted to go to Disneyland, but I've heard, 'Oh you need security,' but Cam's idea was just a dinner and a movie type date," said Nash. "You never really know what's going to end up happening with me, Cam, Carter and Hayes."

Yes, the winners gets to spend a whole day (possibly even go on a date) with the boys. Nash is excited to get the chance to really know some of his biggest fans.

"I love meeting new people. Between all the meet and greets I've done, like MAGCON, DigiFest, we usually don't get to sit and have a conversation with the people that we're meeting and it's really nice to just actually get to know someone who supports you and puts all that time and effort in behind a keyboard," said Nash. "That's really special to me, so I really am looking forward to hanging out with the winners of the sweepstakes."

Nash and his pals meet thousands of girls at meet and greet, but what makes a girl stand out?

"I'm really good at putting a face to a name. Usually if you just come and tell me your name and smile, that's usually the best thing. I'll smile back, or I'll usually smile at you first. There's not one specific thing that really makes me say like, 'Oh look at her.' Be yourself is the best advice I can give you," said Nash. "I'm excited to meet anyone who supports me."

Would he date a fan he met at a meet and greet?

"I would date just about anyone that I fell in love with or liked so if I fell in love with someone at a meet and greet convention then probably."

Sounds like a yes! Nash is the most followed person on Vine, but his favorite person to follow is comedian Bo Burnham. Not only does Nash know lots of digital stars, he's also brushed shoulders with some big names celebrities. He says his favorite celeb he's met so far is Pharrell Williams. So, besides making funny six second videos, what's his ultimate goal?

"Ultimately, I just want to entertain people. Entertain people and make people smile. Whether that's movies, TV, whatever it is, I just want to make people smile. If I can do that comfortably for the rest of my life, I'll be a happy guy. I also want to use my following to help people. I want to do something good. I want to change the world and make an impact," said Nash. "I want make a difference, whether that's through Hope for Holt or another charity or another project, I just want to make my mark and change the world."

Enter the Your Personal Fam Tour Sweepstakes here before it ends on Sept. 19. And check out the cute selfie Nash sent us from his brother's football game in North Carolina below.

Heffron Drive's Kendall Schmidt Talks 'Happy Mistakes,' Crushes and Missing BTR

Universal CityWalk's
It's been a busy fall for Heffron Drive. They released their debut album Happy Mistakes this September and just wrapped up their Happy Mistakes Tour. We sat down with band members Kendall Schmidt and Dustin Belt at one of the tour's final dates in Los Angeles, Calif. to talk all about their new music, touring and what Kendall misses most about Big Time Rush, plus if it's finally the right time for him to get together with his celebrity crush.

"Playing the new songs has been the best part [of the tour] for sure, not that I was tired of the older songs, but it was just nice to have something new to play that had been written recently, so it was feeling modern and cool to play it. And then the fan response to the new music, because in the beginning they didn't know it, so the response to it now has been great and I think we realize that they actually really do love it," said Kendall. "They're spreading it and telling their friends about it, which is all you can ask for."

Kendall and Dustin agree that their favorite song to perform on stage is the album's title track, "Happy Mistakes," because it resonates with such a large audience.

"It's one of those songs where if you don't know the band, and we've seen a lot adults, parents and stuff like that, watching it and when they hear that song you always end up kind of seeing them getting into it. So it's just full energy, full on rock and roll for sure. It's about empowerment. It's not like, 'Go get it.' It's like you know, 'S**t happens, carry on.' That kind of thing. And just keep working hard and you'll get there. That's what the message is and that goes along with love, as well," said Kendall. "The story could also be like, 'Hey, we had a happy mistake in our relationship that led to whatever.'"

Universal CityWalk's
Kendall first gained a large following for being a member of the boy band Big Time Rush, as well as a cast member on the band's Nickelodeon TV show. We had to ask, what does he miss most about BTR?

"Hanging with the guys of course, we were together every night, so that's a big deal. Playing amphitheaters is awfully fun, so I miss that a lot and the TV show was cool, but I think the TV show was starting to drain us toward the end," said Kendall. "It was staring to irritate us towards each other, so it was better for us to play music, but the shows...I miss playing Big Time Rush shows most."

Kendall also opened up about the transition from playing huge amphitheaters with BTR to smaller, more intimate venues with Heffron Drive.

"It's a bit of a mind game, because all I can think about it is like, 'Aw man why aren't there 15,000 people here?' Even though it's not Big Time Rush, so you know we've had to realize quickly, especially me personally coming from Big Time Rush to Heffron Drive. I'm expecting myself to bring something, too. So you know when it wasn't as big and we started with these small shows, it was like, 'Well, check your ego at the door, first show,' and after that it's been all uphill I think," said Kendall. "Well, all downhill in a good way."

Back in August, Kendall told us his celebrity crush is Jordin Sparks when we interviewed him on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards. He even called her "one of the most beautiful women on the planet." So now that Jordin and Jason Derulo have split up, is this finally Kendall's chance to get together with Jordin?

"Don't think I didn't hear about that. Uh...I guess maybe it's our chance to maybe hang out?" said Kendall. "I'm not gonna say he's the jealous type, but I kinda get the vibe that he could be."

We also asked Kendall and Dustin a couple of fan-submitted questions.

Cambio: Describe your album Happy Mistakes in one word.
Dustin: "Egg-cellent."
Kendall: "Depth."

C: What's the happiest mistake you've made?
K: "I like building things and I don't usually measure when I end up building things, so I tend to make a lot of happy mistakes when I do stuff like that. What it really came from, to be honest, was making some weird thing like musically and it ended up being in a song or becoming a song, and that's why it's called happy mistakes, because the the whole record was like a whole bunch of that."

Get Heffron Drive's album Happy Mistakes on iTunes. They'll be on tour in the UK this winter.

Olivia Holt Tells Us How to Take Jeans From Comfy Casual to Red-Carpet Ready

Wallflower Jeans Hosts Fashion Night Out With Olivia Holt

If you don't already know Olivia Holt, get ready to. She's got her own television show on Disney Channel and just signed a record deal with Hollywood Records, the label behind superstar singers like Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. Plus, she's the new face of the clothing brand Wallflower Jeans. We talked to the I Didn't Do It star all about fall fashion, including how to take a pair of jeans from day to night, her style must-haves and the most embarrassing thing in her closet.

Since Olivia is thew new face of Wallflower Jeans, we had to ask, what's her go-to outfit including denim jeans?

"I'm always on the go and I feel like I can't go wrong with basic pieces together with jeans, especially with this brand, because they have so many different types of jeans," said Olivia. "A pair of jeans and a cute top with some sneakers is just kind of a great on-the-go look you can put together really quick."

While jeans are often worn as part of comfy, casual looks, Olivia gave us her best advice for dressing up a pair of jeans like she did at the recent People magazine Style Watch party.

"What's really cool to dress up a pair of jeans is always putting like a pump heel with it and maybe a tight fitting top or a flowy top, just something that's a little dressier," said Olivia. "I just recently went to an event and to dress it up I put a pair of heels with it and a flowy top to go with the pair of blue jeans I was wearing."

OIivia says her dressy-casual demim look was one of her favorite red carpet ensembles, but she also loves dressing up super glam for events, like she did in a metallic gold dress at the Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party.

"It was kind of a different look and it was more on the glam side. That's probably the most glam I've ever been on a carpet, actually," said Olivia. "That was a really cool look that I've never actually experienced and branched out into before."

Olivia says her favorite fall trends are sweaters, scarves, beanies and combat boots. She even says combat boots are her fashion staple, because she wears them with everything! Her must have accessory all year is any kind of jewelry, whether it's earrings, a necklace or a bracelet.

The young actress and singer describes her style as "girly, chic and comfortable." Besides wearing Wallflower Jeans, Olivia's favorite places to shop include Urban Outfitters, Free People and a Los Angeles boutique called Soto. Olivia is definitely turning into a teen fashion icon, but who does she look up to for fashion inspiration?

"For inspiration I kind of go with people who are around my age, because sometimes it's hard looking up to women because they have a little bit a sophisticated look. For everything it'd be Blake Lively. Hair, makeup, clothes, her style in general I totally love. I'm super wild about her style. And also I love Lucy Hale's style. It's very fun, but also young and youthful and hip. It's very in right now. Everything she wears I feel like is a trend that everybody is falling for. And of course the wonderful Kate Middleton. She just kills it every time," said Olivia. "I wish I could pull of half of the stuff that she does, but I love her style and she just shows the confidence that she has when she wears the things that she does."

When it comes to giving style advice to other girls, Olivia says it's all about confidence and wearing clothes you feel comfortable in. That's why she says she loves Wallflower Jeans, because they help create looks that girls can feel like themselves in.

"I'm just really excited to be working with Wallflower Jeans. They're so incredible and Wallflower Jeans has expanded into something bigger. They aren't just about jeans anymore. They offer a lot more for the everyday girl," said Olivia. "There's dresses and tops and you can put like a whole look together and you could really feel that it's you and I think that's what great about it."

Olivia always looks chic on the red carpet and in her Instagram photos, but we had to ask, what's the most embarassing thing in her closet?

"I have a lot of those beanies with like the cat ears on it or a certain type of animal. I love those and those are probably the most embarrassing. I wear those out with my friends and they're like, 'Olivia take it off,' but I'm like, 'No, it's not happening right now.' I have a Hello Kitty one and I'm super crazy about Hello Kitty," said Olivia,. "So it's cool when I wear that one, but when I wear the frog it's like, 'Nah not happening.'"

Check out some Olivia's best red carpet looks below, from super glam to sporty-casual.

Meet 13-Year-Old Fashion Designer Isabella Rose Taylor

Isabella Rose Taylor is a high school grad, college student and already an accomplished designer. Did we mention she's also only 13 years old? Seriously. The young fashionista, artist and entrepreneur has accomplished more than many design hopefuls twice her age. We chatted with Isabella about her road to success, designing clothes for other girls her own age and why she thinks it's important for girls to build and create things.

Isabella recently made her New York Fashion Week debut, and her designs are currently sold on Nordstrom.com. The Texas native says she's always been creating art, but she became interested in sewing when she was 8 years old.

"I'd been painting for a while, but that was when I started sewing. So I went to sewing camp and just sort of fell in love with it, because it's like 3D art and it's really an art," said Isabella. "So that's sort of how I got into it and then over the years it slowly grew into a business."

The coolest part about Isabella's designs are that they are made for teen girls by a teen girl! She creates pieces for girls her own age.

"I think one advantage I have designing for the junior demographic is that all the other designers are older designing for this age group," said Isabella. "So I sort of design for myself in a way and my peers."

However, being one of the youngest fashion designers at her level in the field does come with some challenges.

"There were definitely a lot of challenges. It was a lot of trial and error and learning from my mistakes, but the main problem I had was fabric sourcing, that was a huge one and still is kind of a problem for me now and that's actually why I started designing my own textiles, which was sort of a blessing in disguise, because that makes me unique from other designers. No one else will have the textiles, because they're something I created," said Isabella. "So it's just another way to incorporate my art, which is a nice thing to do."

Isabella Rose Taylor By Dell - Runway - Style360 Spring 2015
It's no surprise Isabella has already found so much success at a young age, because she is one smart cookie. She graduated high school at age 11 and is currently taking college classes.

"I'm in my second year of college right now. I've always been accelerated academically, so once I graduated high school, college was the next step for me."

Isabella is all about being creative, whether it's with fashion or art.

We had to ask: Why do you think it's important for girls to build and create things?

"I think it's important just because even if you aren't maybe a creative person [or] you aren't interested in the arts, [you can] find that mind-set for what you are interested in whether it's math or science. Just having that sort of [creative] mind-set is just really important," said Isabella. "Entrepreneurship is a great sort of equalizer for girls and you have to be creative to start your own business."

Isabella has already accomplished a lot, and she's only 13. She opened up about her future goals and ultimate dream in fashion.

"[My ultimate goal] for my brand is definitely to be a global brand and expand to accessories that can really complete my look, and also mentoring some girls," said Isabella. "I feel that it's so important to offer any advice I can to other people who are interested in the same industry I am and try to pay it forward, so they can have some of the same opportunities I did."

What advice does she have for other girls who have big dreams they want to accomplish?

"I would say, 'just do.' I know it's sort of a basic thing, but I mean the act of doing is what makes you better. And also asking for help. I would not be where I am if I hadn't asked people," said Isabella. "You'd be surprised at how many people will give you the time, they will give you great advice if you let them."

Since Isabella is a fashion guru, we had to get her take on the latest fall trends. Check out our style Q&A with Isabella below.

Cambio: Do you have a favorite piece from your line?
Isabella: My buffalo flannel jacket is one of my favorites if I had to pick one, but I like all of the pieces in my collection!

Cambio: What's your favorite fall trend?
Isabella: I love fall because of layering. Monochromatic pattern mixing is also one of my favorite things this season, but layering is sort of always relevant, not just in the fall.

Cambio: What's your must have accessory?
Isabella: I really like chokers. That's probably what I wear the most.

Cambio: What's your best piece of style advice for girls?
Isabella: I would say: simple and accessorize. Accessories jazz up any simple outfit.

Cambio: Who do you look up to?
Isablla: I love Nasty Gal. I think that she [Sophia Amoruso] really did an amazing job of growing her business and in a relatively short amount of time, so I really look up to her. Donna Karen, as well, for the business side of things.

Cambio: Where are your favorite places to shop?
Isabella: I really like Urban Outfitters and Nordstrom.

This "presented by" post is one in our five-part Girls Who Code Run the World series - spotlighting young women who are helping redefine the way we think about women as builders.

This summer Cambio partnered with Girls Who Code, an innovative organization actively increasing the number of girls exposed to careers in the technology fields. Five graduates of the program are interning at Cambio, and they helped us relaunch the site - building new features and putting their stamp on the content - creating a destination that not only entertains but also empowers young women. We're thrilled to introduce you to these remarkable girls.

Nikki Allen, 17, from The Bronx, NY, is a senior in high school at the Collegiate Institute for Math and Science. While she used to think that building was for boys, GWC helped her realize that coding and creating is for everyone. Her ultimate goal is a career in cyber security. She says she enjoys coding, because she likes the ability to make something through a language that not a lot of people understand. Here, she talks about her experience interning at Cambio and creating a product that will give girls a new way to empower each other and inspire them to become builders.

Cambio: Why did you join Girls Who Code?

Nikki: I joined GWC mainly because I was already interested in the science field. I wanted to become a forensic scientist, but I also wanted to incorporate computers since I am good at working on computers in general.

Cambio: Is it challenging for girls to get into coding?

Nikki: I think it is challenging for girls to get into coding because it's mainly a male-dominated field, but through GWC I realized that you don't need to be a male to code, you don't need to be this stereotype. You can be anybody and you can do anything that you want through coding.

Cambio: Can you tell us about your final project at GWC?

Nikki: My final project was with another GWC alumna. We created an app to help the deaf and those who can hear communicate [with each other]. Our app has pictures and videos on how to utilize sign language.

Cambio: What are you most excited about working on at Cambio?

Nikki: I really wanted to work on the Celebspiration meme generator, because I feel as if girls want to create things, but they don't really know how or they don't know where to start. The meme generator can give them that push to say, "Well I know I can do this, so maybe I can start creating something a little more complex," and that's the goal.

Cambio: What do you hope to achieve by the end of this program at Cambio?

Nikki: I hope to achieve a better understanding of how business and computer science work together. I want to go into cyber security, so I'm glad that I have the business aspect now, so I know why we should we protecting a certain aspect of a business or why something is important and needs to be secure.

Cambio: Which woman inspires you the most and why?

Nikki: Jhené Aiko is my inspiration, because she's been through so much in life. Her brother died of cancer, and she's been in an accident with her daughter, and everything's that's happened in her life has been so traumatic. But she's overcome all of this and she's still making music. Her goal is to inspire other people, and I just love her so much for that.

Cambio: What empowers you?

Nikki: What empowers me the most is doing things and working. I volunteer at the New York Botanical Garden, and I also code on the side and I'm also doing homework, but I can't just sit still. What empowers me is working, because I'm getting towards the goals that I want to reach in life.

Cambio: What do you think girls care most about today?

Nikki: Today I think some girls care more about image than what they're trying to do in life. They care about the now, like what's happening right now, and I think they need to start planning for the future. I know you have to live in the moment, but you also need to prepare for the future. The girls that are thinking about what they want to do in the future for a career, those are the ones who are being progressive now. They're doing internships or they're working. Even if it's at a clothing store, they're still taking that initiative.

(Check out Nikki and her fellow interns' interview with Kalin and Myles, pictured above)

Cambio: Who's your favorite celebrity?

Nikki: Zoe Saldana. I think Zoe Saldana is so amazing, because she speaks what's on her mind, but in a gentle positive way, and she gets her point across. I just love her so much. She knows what she's doing.

Cambio: What's your favorite movie she's been in?

Nikki: Death at a Funeral. That's my favorite movie.

Cambio: What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?

Nikki: With the word build, I think of more of a male perspective. Like, "You can't be a girl and build." That's what I would have thought, but through GWC I know that building doesn't have to be anything tangible that you can actually touch. You can build anything. You can code. You can even build a mind. You can help your little sister with her homework, that's building something. I feel like building is more of a creative process, not so much of a physical, tangible thing.

Michelle Polton-Simon, 17, from New York City, is a senior at Hunter College High School. She was the only girl in her first computer science class and loves proving that girls can do anything boys can do. Here, she talks about her experience interning at Cambio and creating a product that will give girls a new way to empower each other and encourage them to make their mark.

Cambio: Why did you join Girls Who Code?

Michelle: I joined GWC, because my mom saw an article in the New York Times about it and I'd previously taken a Java class, but hadn't found the teaching to really suit me and I'd also done some stuff on my school's robotics team, but I wanted to I guess try something a little bit more, so I decided to sign up.

Cambio: Is it challenging for girls to get into coding?

Michelle: It is hard to get girls interested in coding. It's really challenging, because the first computer science class I took was entirely boys except for me - and while I'm not the sort of person that gets intimidated by that, in fact I find that kind of cool to prove that I can do anything any boy can - it's a little scary when the teacher doesn't know how to treat you, because you're the only girl. So it's a bit of a challenge to try to encourage girls to step into a field that's primarily men.

Cambio: Can you tell us about your final project at GWC?

Michelle: Two other girls and I built an app that used Instagram and Google maps so that you could select a location on Google Maps and it would pull up the most recent Instagram photos from that location in real time.

Cambio: What are you most excited about working on at Cambio?

Michelle: I'm really excited to have something I built on the actual Cambio website and to I guess get my hand at trying to build something for an established website.

Cambio: What do you hope to achieve by the end of this program at Cambio?

Michelle: I want to have solid enough knowledge of computer science that I can go back to school or go into college knowing that I'm comfortable with this and that I actually know what I'm doing.

Cambio: Which woman inspires you the most and why?

Michelle: I think probably my mother, because she's made sure me and my sister always go after what we dream and never let anyone intimidate us not pursue what we want, and she's always made it possible for us to do everything we want to do while she works a full-time job but is also there for us whenever we need her.

Cambio: What empowers you?

Michelle: I think the support network I have. I have a lot of friends and family who are always doing things that really interest them no matter what that is. I have a lot of friends who want to become doctors and lawyers and politicians and seeing these other girls doing stuff that really interests them - they're also really hard fields to break into - it's really nice to have that support network or people encouraging each other.

gregg sulkin(Check out Michelle and her fellow interns' interview with Gregg Sulkin, pictured above)

Cambio: What do you think girls care most about today?

Michelle: I think girls today care a lot about making their mark and with new technology establishing themselves in whatever industry or world they want to be part of.

Cambio: Who's your favorite celebrity?

Michelle: I really like Emma Watson, because she's done so much and she was just announced one of the UN's Good Will Ambassadors. She also makes really good movies, but she has like a really solid message for women and she does so much while still attending college and that's really, really incredible.

Cambio: What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?

Michelle: To me #BUILTBYGIRLS means being able to do whatever you want to do, being able to make whatever you want to make whether that's something small like your DIY project, your belt you want to make or your bracelet, to building your own website or establishing yourself in whatever field you really love.

Ashley Tisdale Teases New Move Into the Fashion World

AMC's Can we expect a new fashion or accessory line from Ashley Tisdale? If so, we wouldn't be surprised. The former Disney star is a serious #girlboss. She's a creator, builder and all-around doer. You know her from her acting and music careers, but she's also built her own production company, Blondie Girl Productions, and is even hinting that she may soon journey into the world of fashion. Her first step is participating in Shoedazzle's latest charity initiative, ShoeDazzle Cares, by sponsoring a special shoe that will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization committed to leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer.

"I partnered up with Shoedazzle and I'm sponsoring a shoe. I'm a humongous supporter behind St. Jude. I visited the hospital a year-and-a-half ago and hung out with the children and actually one of the kids I met decorated the boot that I chose and put her own little spin on it," said Ashley. "I'm excited to be a part of ShoeDazzle, I'm a big fan of shopping and I love fashion... I love shoes."

Since Ashley loves to shop, we asked her all about fashion and style, as well as what's next for her acting and producing career. Check out our Q & A below.

Cambio: What's your favorite fall trend?
Ashely: Right now greys are my favorite color. I love being able to just layer a bunch of grey and black. I think black is something that whenever it gets into fall I like to go a little bit darker with my style. I love the oversize jackets. I just got this really cute rag & bone jacket, but I'm always someone who obviously loves shopping.

Cambio: What's your style must-have?
Ashley: I definitely think my style must-have would have to be a really great pair of jeans, [or] really great boots. I'm not someone who likes to wear high heels all the time. I love a good bootie. Those I think are the most versatile, where you can wear it with skinny jeans or an oversize sweater. Or you can dress them up with a cute little dress and tights in the winter or in the summertime you can just have like a cute little spring dress with them or skirt. I feel like boots are just something you can dress up or dress down. I think those are the two go-tos for me. (Check out the bootie Ashley is sponsoring for ShoeDazzle Cares below.)

Cambio: Where are your favorite places to go shopping?
Ashley: Topshop, rag & bone, Intermix, Barney's and Free People.

Cambio: What's your best piece of style advice for young girls?
Ashley: If I were going to give my younger self advice I'd probably say less is more, because there are certain trends that come around...the layer trend is something that it's like, pick the pieces you want to layer. When I was younger, I used to just layer everything...layer jewelry and layer clothes and I just did not know. So I guess like with the whole layering trend, pick pieces.

Cambio: One of the shows you produce, Young and Hungry, is nominated for a People's Choice Award. What does that mean to you?
Ashley: Oh my gosh, it's like really exciting. You know it's super exciting to have our first scripted show be on the air let alone people loving it and voting for it to be nominated. Getting a nomination for People's Choice is awesome. I've been producing for so long and this is the first scripted show I took out, so it was pretty exciting. From the start it's been exciting, every single step of the way.

Cambio: Whats next for for you and your production company, Blondie Girl Productions?
Ashley: Right now we're just in a lot of different elements. We have been developing shows for E! and Bravo, a lot of unscripted, there's some scripted stuff, but we always kind of have a lot going on over there. There's also movies we're producing, so just a lot of stuff in development right now.

Cambio: Can your fans expect any new music soon?
Ashley: Not right now. I've just been really focused on producing and also I'm going to be starring in my own series, Buzzy's, on TBS. I start that in March. So I have a lot going on. If I were to do more music, I would want to focus a lot on it. So I've just kind of been doing that and also, can't talk too much about it, but I might be also getting into the fashion world, as well, so I have a couple things I am developing and excited to hopefully share soon. Not right now, but maybe! I never like to say no.

'Slednecks' Go Naked Snowboarding on MTV's Crazy New Show

slednecks
MTV's new reality series Slednecks follows a group of 20-something, "outdoor tough" friends living in the rural town of Wasilla, Alaska (aka Sarah Palin's hometown). Since they don't have anything better to do on the freezing tundra, they get into crazy antics like polar bear plunges, glacier parties and human catapulting. It's basically Jersey Shore and Buckwild meets Ice Road Truckers.

We talked to Sledneck's Amber Stepp, 22, all about the show, living in rural Alaska, the serious fight she finds herself in and all the crazy antics these "slednecks" get into, including naked snowboarding, on tonight's new episode on MTV at 10/9C.

Cambio: How would you describe your role in this group of friends?
Amber: I'm super bubbly. I'm very happy. I get along with everybody. I love adventure, as well, so it's like I'm always down to have a good time and anything that Trevor comes up with I'm one of the first people to be like, 'Alright, let's do it!' That's kind of my role, just being friends with everyone and just enjoying life and enjoying my friends and having a good time.

Cambio: You get in a fight on this week's episode. What happens?
Amber: Well basically it got a little bit escalated and it kind of got a little bit out of hand, but this girl kind of started something and I was just wanting to defend myself a little bit. Next time, I definitely will not let it get out of hand like that, but that's kind of what happens when you put a bunch of 20-year-olds together at a party. Things get out of control sometimes, but I was really glad that Zeke came in and helped me out. It got a little out of control.

Cambio: You all go naked snowboarding on this week's episode. How did that come back about?!
Amber: (Laughs) Well, every game we play, it always has to end up with a bet and usually that ends up with us being naked...a lot. Everything's better when you're naked! The other team won a bet and we all agreed to it and next thing you know, we're naked on top of the mountain.

Cambio: Ahh, that's crazy! Was it awkward at all?
Amber: We're so used to it. It's like, 'Let's make things interesting.' We're used to it and we just have a good time. We like to be crazy! I can say it's the most freeing experience, everyone should try it!

Cambio: What really struck me while watching the show was all the beautiful sceanery. How do you feel about the nature you're surrounded by living in Alaska?
Amber: Oh man, every day you just look out your window and you're like, 'Man, this is an amazing place.' It's really interesting, because it's something that a lot of people can't grasp or experience for themselves, so it makes it pretty special. You'd think that you'd get bored of it you know, but I could look at mountains all day long and be like, 'This is amazing!' It's the same thing with glaciers. You can be on the back of a glacier and just be like, 'Wow this is magnificent.' I love our state, it's so beautiful. So, definitely can't get sick of that.

slednecksCambio: Have you lived in Alaska your whole life?
Amber: Yeah, I was born and raised in Anchorage, so yep I was born and raised here. This is my home. I love it.

Cambio: You moved from the city of Anchorage to this small town. What was that transition like?
Amber: It was definitely a little bit different. I think that moving to Wasilla has definitely captured my more adventurous side, because you're so close to being able to do whatever you want to do. You're closer to that stuff outside the city, so I've really enjoyed the transition. What better to have fun adventures and great friends together? They made it really easy for me. It's definitely a lot of fun, I'm glad I did.

Cambio: What do the other people in this small town think about the show?
Amber: Everyone has their own opinion about it and I think there's always going to be good opinions and bad opinions, but at the end of the day, we're not trying to represent anybody. We're just representing ourselves and showing people how much fun we have in Alaska and enjoy our friends.

Cambio: When people watch this show, what do you hope they take away from it?
Amber: Everyone gets stuck in a rut sometimes, even in their own hometown, no matter where it is, so I kind of hope that people will see this and be like, 'Yeah, we can do fun things! We can make our state exciting,' and just go out and explore and get off the couch and find something fun to do with a great group of friends. I hope that messages is portrayed to everybody and that they have fun ideas to get out and explore their awesome state, because every state's unique and wonderful and there's so much to discover. So I hope people watch and get that out of it.

Cambio: What do you think makes this show special or unique compared to previous MTV shows about young people like Jersey Shore or Buckwild?
Amber: It's in a different place and I feel like people are curious about it. And when you have a different environment that not a lot of people know about, it's very entertaining. It's very different. We're very unique and we're different from any other state. We have an endless variety of things to show everybody that they have never seen before, which is really cool and we have a group of friends who nobody's seen before. When you have unique friends and a unique place, it just makes it that much better.

Check out a crazy clip of the Slednecks crew naked snowboarding on tonight's new episode below.

Slednecks airs back to back episodes Thursdays at 10/9C on MTV.

Girls Who Code Run the World: Meet 17-Year-Old Natasha Driver

This "presented by" post is one in our five-part Girls Who Code Run the World series - spotlighting young women who are helping redefine the way we think about women as builders.

This summer Cambio partnered with Girls Who Code, an innovative organization actively increasing the number of girls exposed to careers in the technology fields. Five graduates of the program are interning at Cambio, and they helped us relaunch the site - building new features and putting their stamp on the content - creating a destination that not only entertains but also empowers young women. We're thrilled to introduce you to these remarkable girls.

Natasha Drive, 17, from The Bronx, New York, is a senior at St. Jean Baptiste High Scool. She thinks all girls should be introduced to coding, but on the lighter side she still loves sharing funny and inspirational memes with her friends. For her Girls Who Code final project, she worked with fellow Cambio intern Nikki Allen on an app that helps people learn sign language. Here, she talks about her experience interning at Cambio and creating a product that she and her friends will be able to share.

Cambio: Why did you join Girls Who Code (GWC)?

Natasha: I joined GWC, because my guidance counselor had introduced us to the club and she said it was a great opportunity for the summer.

Cambio: Is it challenging for girls to get into coding?

Natasha: I think coding could be challenging, but I think that all girls should definitely be introduced to it and learn about what it takes to make a website or application so that they can go behind the scenes and see if it's something that they'd like to do.

Cambio: Can you tell us about your final project at GWC?

Natasha: I was actually partners with Nikki Allen (fellow Cambio Intern). We made an app that enables you to learn sign language.

Cambio: What was the hardest thing to build on the app?

Natasha: The hardest thing was probably getting JavaScript incorporated and making it flow easily and a good user experience, but it worked out in the end and we were able to do it all.

Cambio: What are you most excited about working on at Cambio?

Natasha: Actually making the Celebspiration meme generator and seeing how it turned out.

Cambio: Do you share memes with your friends all the time?

Natasha: I do, I actually really love memes. I enjoy how funny they can be or inspirational. With this product, I can create and share memes, and my friends can make their own and spread the word.

Cambio: What do you hope to achieve by the end of this program at Cambio?

Natasha: I hope to achieve better skills at coding so that I'll be more confident at doing it on my own at home and teaching other people, as well.

Cambio: Which woman inspires you the most and why?

Natasha: I'd have to say Sonia Sotomayor (Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States), because she does come from The Bronx and she worked her way up. I think that's so inspiring. Her story is very relatable.

Cambio: What empowers you?

Natasha: I would have to say support from family and friends. That's very empowering, because having their faith and knowing they believe in you and that you're capable of doing something, I think that that's very empowering.

(Check out Natasha's interview with musical duo Kalin and Myles, pictured above)

Cambio: What do you think that girls want to read about on a site like Cambio?

Natasha: I think girls do want to read about celebrity gossip and what's going on in that world - because, you know, like reality television, that's what we see a lot of. But I also think that they'd be interested in learning about what other girls are doing and what they could be capable of doing as well if they saw it.

Cambio: Who's your favorite celebrity?

Natasha: My favorite celebrity right now is Ariana Grande. I just think that she's really cute and she always uses Twitter, and I'm an avid Twitter user. She always connects with her fans - she does following sprees and she's very real, and I can relate to her a lot.

Cambio: What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?

Natasha: It's like a movement - we're capable of creating anything if we put our mind to it, whether it be a website or some recipe that a girl has worked on. Whatever the case, it's just empowering in a sense and inspirational that other girls can see what they're capable of as well.
