These Celeb Guys Are In for Equality, Are You? Let's #LeanInTogether

The national Lean In Men's campaign focuses on how everyone benefits when men support women at home and at work. David Beckham, for example, has said about leaning in, "What matters is being a good father and a good husband - just being connected to family as much as possible. Being a dad is more important than football, more important than anything."
Matt Damon, a father of four girls, isn't afraid of leaning in - and rolling up his sleeves - either. "I probably worried more about changing diapers and bodily fluids and all that before I became a father," says Matt. "The reality is that once it's your kid, it's not a big deal at all." The campaign sums it up: Men leaning in for women and their families results in stronger marriages and healthier, happier, more successful kids.
Want to get involved? Fuel the movement by using #LeanInTogether and tell us about the guys in your life who support you.

What #BUILTBYGIRLS Means to 8 Teen Scientists

However, they weren't alone in being celebrated or awarded with dough. 40 teen scientists and finalists, chosen from a previously recognized group of 300 semifinalists, gathered in Washington, DC for the prestigious pre-college science and math competition. The three second-place winners received $75,000 each and the three third-place winners received $35,000 each. Plus, each finalist received at least $7,500. It seriously pays to be smart!
We talked to eight female finalists from Intel's Science Talent Search about their projects, who inspires them and what #BUILTBYGIRLS means to them. Check out the inspiring answers below from these girls who are building a better future.

Yizhen Zhang
- What did you build?I did neural network reconstructions of the blue-light-sensitive cells in our eyes that carry signals crucial for color vision, biorhythm, eye development and cognitive functions.
- Who inspires you and why?
My mentor, Dr. Wei Li, from the National Institutes of Health inspires me to explore the boundaries of science.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
To me #BUILTBYGIRLS is an opportunity and a platform to inspire more girls to become involved in STEM. With #BUILTBYGIRLS, we will be able to build towards a more equal society.

Anika Raghuvanshi
- What did you build?I researched the memristor, which is a new technology which could revolutionize computers by making computer chips more power and space efficient. I designed algorithms and coded them to try and find the most efficient methods for implementing memristors.
- Who inspires you and why?
My sister is an inspiration to me. She has gone into the male-dominated field of computer science and has had a good experience and been successful.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
To me, this means that girls have the power and the creativity to produce incredible things. More needs to be done to help girls realize this potential.

Emily Ashkin
- What did you build? My research represents a new paradigm in cancer therapy for the treatment of melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer.
- Who inspires you?
After watching my mom battle skin cancer when I was 11, I became inspired to understand this disease and get my feet wet in the field. Watching her suffer and persevere motivated me to work toward making an impact on treatment using science and research.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
#BUILTBYGIRLS represents the pride of girls forging ahead in STEM fields. We are making an incredible impact and we present remarkable perspectives. #BUILTBYGIRLS means never letting gender be a limitation for achieving your goals.

Anvita Gupta
- What did you build?I focused on reducing the time and cost of drug discovery by combining artificial intelligence with biochemistry to "teach" the computer to identify drug leads for Cancer, Tuberculosis, and Ebola, by targeting a class of proteins common in all these diseases.
- Who inspires you and why?
I am really inspired by Sheena Iyengar, a professor at Columbia. A second generation immigrant, she suffered from a genetic eye disorder that left her blind by the time she was in high school, and her father died when she was a teenager. She still went on to receive a 2400 on the SAT and a doctorate from Stanford, overcoming all odds. Her research is also some of the most interesting that I have ever seen-- she studies how people make choices and view the art of making decisions based on their upbringing. She found that people are unable to make decisions when they have an excessive amount of choices, with her famous jam study. She inspires me with her dedication to discovery and her ability to overcome whatever life has thrown at her with optimism and poise.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
I think that "building" has traditionally been thought of as having very male connotations-- building a house, building muscle, making things bigger. Words like "support" and "nourish" or "nurture" have usually had more female connotations. #BUILTBYGIRLS shows that girls don't have to be relegated to passive roles - we can develop and design anything we want, and have an active role in building our future and our dreams.

Kriti Lall
- What did you build? In my project, I built a novel water treatment system to remove arsenic from water inexpensively for use in developing countries.
- Who inspires you?
I'm really inspired by powerful women role models in science, such as Marie Curie and Elizabeth Blackburn.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
I think it means that regardless of gender, we can do whatever we set our minds to. It doesn't matter whether you're a girl or a boy. You set your own limits on what you can achieve.

Catherine Li
- What did you build?I developed a new method of producing biodegradable microparticles designed for drug delivery and imaging, with potential applications in personalized cancer therapy.
- Who inspires you?
I'm most inspired by Rosalind Franklin (a chemist who helped discover the structure of DNA) and Malala Yousafzai, because they each fearlessly committed themselves to passions that were difficult, complex and noble.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
#BUILTBYGIRLS recognizes the ideas and dreams that are made possible through the efforts of girls, and emphasizes the power that our population has to change the world by pursuing what matters to us.

Emily Spencer
- What did you build? For my project I developed a polymer that can heal itself when exposed to light and revert back to a remembered state when exposed to heat; in the future this material could be used as a coating on cars, easily healing larger scratches.
- Who inspires you?
I am inspired by the scientists I grew up watching. My passion for science started with space, so I grew up looking to astronauts and astrophysicists as role models. I was inspired by Michio Kaku's books and Stephen Hawking's TV specials on the science channel. In high school I was inspired by the older girls in my school who were also doing research. They knew their projects so well and were so passionate about the work that they were doing, it made me want to experience it myself.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
#BUILTBYGIRLS means showing girls that they have the ability to do whatever they want with their lives. With hard work and a strong passion, everyone has a chance to make their dreams come true. For me that starts in the lab. The infinitely expanding boundaries in the field of materials science means that innovation is coming from the dreamers, and girls have the opportunity to make up the next generation of dreamers with the conviction to make things happen.

Kalia Firester
- What did you build?I identified a protein secreted by destructive plant parasites that enables their infection and I genetically engineered plants to suppress the protein leading to decreased parasitic development which could eventually be used to develop resistant crops.
- Who inspires you and why?
I am constantly inspired by my mentors, Dr. Sigal Brown Horowitz and Dr. Ionit Iberkleid. Both are creative and exceptional researchers who believe in the importance of science that has important applications to real world problems.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
The idea of empowering young women to participate in whatever they want is one that I see is omnipresent in the communities of young scientists I have been privileged to meet both in Intel STS and Intel ISEF. Being in this community has been exceptionally important so I would say that #BUILTBYGIRLS means a community of inspiring women engaging and encouraging each other.
Slime Rehearsal: Jace Norman Can't Wait to Meet Nick Jonas at Kids' Choice 2015

Cambio: This is your first time being nominated for a KCA! How does it feel?
Jace: I'm super excited! Last year, our show [Henry Danger] hadn't even come out yet, so I'm expecting this year to be much different and I'm really pumped. It's kind of surreal.
Cambio: Who are you most excited to see at the KCAs?
Jace: Nick Jonas! I'm a big fan. And I'm actually really pumped to see Josh Peck. We've met once before, but I want to meet him again.
Cambio: If you could slime anyone, who would you want to slime?
Jace: Everyone in my cast except for me.
Cambio: You wouldn't want to get slimed?!
Jace: No!
Cambio: Have you ever been slimed?
Jace: Yes. I've been slimed on Nickelodeon's show Webheads, but it's not the same, you know? It's not like the KCA slime.
(Jace got slimed again after we interviewed him! Check out the video above.)
Cambio: What does slime feel like?
Jace: It's really cold and sticky obviously. And it kind of gets everywhere and it stains.
Cambio: If slime could be made out of anything, what would you want it to be made out of?
Jace: Probably Kool-Aid.
Cambio: Which KCA performance are you most likely to sing and dance along to? Nick Jonas, 5 Seconds Of Summer or Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson?
Jace: Probably Nick! Nick or Iggy Azalea.
Cambio: Why do you think this year's KCAs are going to be bigger and better than ever?
Jace: Honestly, because Nick Jonas is hosting it. He's such a big star and especially really relevant in this time and the kids who are watching are going to love him, I think.

G. Hannelius Launches New Custom Nail Wrap App, Make Me Nails

Check out our Q&A with G all about the app, her inspiration and #BUILTBYGIRLS below.
Cambio: What inspired you to create the Make Me Nails app?
G: I've always had a love of nail art and I did nail art tutorials on YouTube and my fans really responded to it and loved recreating the designs and when I saw how much they loved it, I wanted to find a way to make nail art more accessible for people so I partnered with Lauren Jones who runs a digital marketing company, she kind of had that tech influence and we thought what's more accessible than a mobile app and that's where the app idea stemmed from.
Cambio: How does the app work?
G: Make Me Nails is the first very customizable nail wrap app, so users can go into the app and they can design custom nail wraps. They can upload an image by taking a photo, they can upload from their camera roll, from Facebook or Instagram, they can log in through the app or we have a variety of pre-selected designs.
Cambio: Where do you look for nail art inspiration?
G: I love looking to YouTube and Instagram, those are probably my main places, but I mean you can even get inspiration just from a pattern on a dress that you like or whatever it is, just everyday inspiration. If you see a really cool pattern on a mug, you can turn basically any print that you like into nail art which is what makes it so fun and creative.

G: My mom always says, "Loud and proud," and I love that saying, because teenage girls especially can benefit from that and believing in that. I know so many girls, and I do too, that struggle with confidence and feeling insecure, so I think being "loud and proud" basically just stands for being confident and being proud of yourself and your everyday achievements big or small. [That] can really boost your confidence.
Cambio: Who inspires you?
G: My friends, my family and my mom really inspire me. And Lauren Jones who's the co-founder of Make Me Nails. She inspires me daily. She's so incredible and hardworking.
Cambio: What advice would you give to other teen girls who want to be entrepreneurs like you?
G: I would say keep dreaming up ideas, because that's where this whole Make Me business started from. It was just this tiny idea and I thought, "Oh my gosh, this could never happen, because it's this crazy idea and it didn't even exist at the time, creating customized nail wraps in an app. That technology doesn't exist, how would I figure that out?" And there were all of these kind of "I can'ts" in my head, but when I really put it down on paper, and this kind of dream became a reality, it's a total "I can." "I can do it and what more can I do?" Just taking your ideas and taking them seriously, and turning them into a goal and something you can achieve.
Cambio: What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
G: #BUILTBYGIRLS means something special. I think girls are incredibly smart, talented, hardworking and I think girls bring something special, especially when they're all working together. #BUILTBYGIRLS means something amazing.

Raini Rodriguez Rocks Grown-Up Role in 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2'

In the movie, Maya's just trying to have fun on vacay in Sin City and talk to the cute baggage boy, played by major hottie David Henrie, but her dad is seriously trying to cramp her style. Check out our Q&A with Raini about growing up with her character, shooting in Las Vegas before turning 21 and what #BUILTBYGIRLS means to her below.
Cambio: What was your favorite part about filming Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2?
Raini: Getting to comeback with everybody. To be able to comeback and work with Kevin again was just another dream come true. And just getting to play the characters again. I got to play Maya all grown up now and we welcomed a bunch of new people in our movie like David Henrie so to welcome them and all of our crew to our new Mall Cop family was amazing.
Cambio: What's your favorite scene in the movie?
Raini: I have way too many! One of my biggest ones would have to be when...there's some fun action sequence scenes going on and those are so much fun to film, cause you see all of our stunt guys being so cool with all their fighting and how professionally trained they are, and Kevin and his band of misfits being all funny with their fighting. It was a lot of fun and then I got to participate in some of it and that was pretty cool because I'd never gotten to do stunts before.
Check out a sneak peek of Raini in Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 below.
Cambio: What was it like filming this movie in Las Vegas?
Raini: It was so much fun! We wrapped the film five days before my 21st birthday so that kind of made it funny, because walking around the casino, I wasn't allowed on the casino floor unless one of our PAs [production assistants] held my hand, because legally I wasn't 21. Las Vegas is so much fun. It's so energetic and full of people, and there's a new group of people on every corner, so to see all that was pretty fun. I got to see fun shows and filming at the Wynn Hotel was beautiful. They were so lovely and accommodating there and they were so welcoming. And it was so much fun! I mean we literally filmed everywhere at the Wynn from the golf course to the roofs of the hotel. So that was pretty fun.
Cambio: Did you stay in Las Vegas to celebrate your 21s birthday?
Raini: I did not, no! Because I was already there for three months, so I had been gone a long time, so I thought I should probably get back home.
Cambio: What did you do to celebrate your 21st birthday?
Raini: I went home to Texas and I had a birthday party with my family. And I got a custom made Wizard of Oz cake, because nothing says I'm 21 like the Wizard of Oz! [laughs] I had a pool party with all my cousins and my family, just spending family time. I don't' get to have a lot of family time back home in Texas, so any rare time that I get to be there is really special to me, so my birthday was fun.

Raini: Well first of all, I think it's different, because we're all grown up. This movie takes place six years later. And it's relatable because we have the father-daughter aspect. Maya's 20 now, she's about to go off to college and her dad is still overbearing and holding on to her, not letting her go too much. It's funny, because in the first movie we see her as like a little kid, like a little shy girl that gets kidnapped and needs her dad, and in the second movie she's really tough and headstrong, and she's ready to take over the world in her own way. So it's really special to have that father-daughter dynamic, but at the same time to have it where she's all grown up now and she can take care of herself, too.
Cambio: What's a piece of advice you want to give other girls?
Raini: To go for their dreams no matter what. I was 11 years old when I started acting and from the day that I started acting I always said that I wanted to be on Disney Channel and 10 years later to tell you that that dream came true is so amazing to me. So know that dreams do come true, so just go for it no matter what your dream is. If you want to be a doctor or a singer, just go for it and don't let anybody hold you back. Don't let anybody stop you.
Cambio: What's does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
Raini: Just being a girl, being yourself. You know I think as a girl we're all special. I think every person's special, and I think you need to always believe that in yourself to just be who you are, because there's all kinds of different people and there's all kinds of different girls. I just think you be the best girl you can be. I think being a girl is a big compliment, because we're strong people and we obviously can fight for our dreams and follow our path the same way that everybody else can. So I think it's pretty awesome to be a girl.
Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 hits theaters on April 17.

#PeriodProblems: Niall Horan Edition
As girls, we've all had to deal with #periodproblems, like when your "monthly gift" surprises you at school and you forgot to replace that pair of emergency underwear in your locker. Or when you didn't have time to use the restroom during passing period and your teacher insists on knowing why you're bringing you backpack to the bathroom during class. (Just so you know, it doesn't get easier once you're out of school and have a job. "Why are you taking your purse to the bathroom?" BECAUSE I NEED IT.)
However, speaking from experience, your period does get less annoying as you get older. Or maybe you just get used to dealing with #periodproblems...LOL.
We would like to thank the Directioners who used Niall Horan from One Direction to help illustrate some of our most common #periodproblems in the video above.

Inspiring Advice From 6 Teen Innovators
We're always on the look out for inspiring girls who are builders and creators working to change the world. These six teen innovators are doing just that. Simone, Jesseca, Allison, Madison, McKenzie and Ishi are all finalists in this year's Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, the world's largest high school science research competition.
Every year, high school students are encouraged to explore their passion for developing innovations through a global network of science fairs. These six girls are part of a group of approximately 1,700 finalists from around the world who were offered the opportunity to compete for $4 million in awards and scholarships at this year's international fair.
These teen girls are amazing. Their projects range from "sunscreen" for your roof to a dress that charges your cell phone through solar power. Check out their inspiring advice and what #BUILTBYGIRLS means to them below.
Simone Braunstien
- What did you build? In the rapidly emerging field of soft robotics, I helped solve the problem of unpredictable motion by designing a soft robotic gripper to inflate predictably, and combining it, for the first time, with a
verifiable synthesized control system called Linear Temporal Logic Mission Planning Toolkit (LTLMoP) to decrease overall unpredictability.
- Who inspires you?
My co-mentors at Cornell University's Sibley School of Engineering: Professor Hadas Kress-Gazit for her innovative work in verifiably-correct robot control systems and Professor Robert Shepherd for his creativity in applying chemical engineering to problems previously only addressed via mechanical engineering. Also, Professor Conor Walsh and Professor Donal Holland not only for their groundbreaking work in biomedical engineering at the Harvard Biodesign Lab, but also for their firm commitment to the open source engineering community.
- What's your best advice for other teen girls?
If you are fascinated by robotics or engineering, and love to spend time in a machine shop, don't try to fit anyone else's image of what an engineer or maker should look like.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
To me, #BUILTBYGIRLS represents the growing community of women in STEM careers who can support and mentor each other. There are so many terrific non-profit organizations which help encourage girls in STEM careers - Girls Who Code and Black Girls Code are two of my favorites!

Jesseca Kusher
- What did you build? My project tested over 1,440 roofing shingle samples and created a new "sunscreen" to make urban areas more reflective and thereby cut down on the amount of the air pollutant, ozone, that's created.
- Who inspires you and why?
It's hard to decide between Atticus Finch, Jane Goodall, and my mom - but I'd have to say my mom. She's a kick-butt infectious disease doctor and she inspires me everyday with her wit, compassion, and style.
- What's your best advice for other teen girls?
Give yourself time to be you. In a world where everyone seems to have different ideas of who we should be, you should take the time to decide for yourself what it means to be you.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
We've finally got a hashtag to spread the love for all those talented young ladies who are out there changing the world with their passion, their ingenuity, and their smiles! Rock on, girls, and keep moving forward!

Allison Clausius
- What did you build?I designed and fabricated a functioning, washable photovoltaic dress (a.k.a. solar cell dress) to charge cell phones and tablets, with special focus on the angle of the cells to maximize sunlight absorbency. - - Who inspires you and why?
Christian Dior inspires me- the incredible elegance, perfection, and the classic look of his company's clothing continually cause me to fall in love with fashion. His legacy gives me hope that someday I may be able to pave own path and create my own legacy in scientific fashion.
- What's your best advice for other teen girls?
Do not let other people's opinions prevent you from being yourself and achieving your dreams. You can be anything and achieve anything that you wish - just stay focused and continue to love what you do.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
#BUILTBYGIRLS means that finally, a breakthrough is happening in the world of science. It means that someday soon, men will no longer dominate the science industry, and women will be confident and thriving in the research industry.

Madison and McKenzie Plyman
- What did you build? Our project is designed to remove arsenic (III) from contaminated drinking water using iron oxide, dialysis tubing, and a 3D printed filtration mechanism.
- Who inspires you and why? Madison: My mom is my biggest inspiration. She constantly reminds me what it means to have integrity, be virtuous, and have perseverance. She motivates me to be a better person every single day. I would not be where I am without her.
Makenzie: My mom is my inspiration because amidst the struggles she has had to face, she has taught me what it means to stay strong, persevere, and always stay true to oneself.
- What's your best advice for other teen girls?
Madison: Stay true to yourself. Society tends to create an image that girls have to follow, but that's not true. It's important that you embrace your originality and know that you are beautiful inside and out.
Makenzie: Stay true to yourself. A teen girl who is confident in her abilities and not afraid to stand out will get very far in life.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
Madison: #BUILTBYGIRLS means that the program is being led by the influence and ingenuity of girls all around the world.
Makenzie: To me, #BUILTBYGIRLS means that something very innovative and impressive was created by girls to help improve society in some way.

Ishi Aron
- What did you build?I worked on treating acute ischemic stroke using a calcium channel blocker called Verapamil.
- Who inspires you and why?
My mother inspires me more than anyone else in the world. She is the first to congratulate me on my accomplishments, and she is always there for me when something goes wrong. My mom has stayed up with me until 1 a.m. to help me with a project or to listen to me talk about what's on my mind. I know that she will always catch me when I fall, no matter what I do. But what makes my mom so inspirational is her deep and persistent love for me every single day. My mother's loving and encouraging words have often given me the last bit of energy that I need to reach the finish line.
- What's your best advice for other teen girls?
I would say if you try your best to achieve something, and things don't work out, then it wasn't meant to be. However, you should keep trying, and not give up easily. When I was looking for a research lab, it took me four months of emailing mentors until I found a mentor. But a couple weeks later, my mentor changed her mind and said that she could no longer take me. This news was extremely discouraging to me, especially because it took me so long to find someone to work with. I felt that I had wasted hours and hours of my life, and that I would never be able to get research experience in high school. However, I decided to give it another try, and after a few more months of emailing, I was able to start working in a stroke lab. Had I stayed with the previous mentor, I may not be here at the International Science and Engineering Fair today. You have to keep trying, and things will work out for the best. You just have to believe in that.
- What does #BUILTBYGIRLS mean to you?
To me, #BUILTBYGIRLS means a world in which girls are not afraid to go after their visions, dreams, and passions. #BUILTBYGIRLS is when a girl is #fearless, and doesn't let others distract her from achieving her goals.
